Maybe They ARE Evil?

I have attempted to contact the Humane Society in multiple ways (phone, snail-mail, e-mail.)  The only time they respond is if I insult them.  They have not responded to my positive queries.

Today I got a mailing from them asking for more money.

Perhaps I should continue to insult them or question their honor or something…

True to human form, the only attention I’m getting for any of this is when I insult someone or stir the pot.

What IS Governor Beshear doing?

This is a letter written by Kentucky’s governor last year. If he makes these official statements, what is stopping him from ACTUALLY MAKING CHANGES AND ACTING TO SUPPORT ANIMAL WELFARE? Sounds like a politician to me…

Okay…trying to make everyone happy is like trying to herd cats…

Kentuckians are for animal “welfare” not animal “rights” because for some reason people can’t differentiate animal rights and insane hippie vegans who throw blood at women wearing fur.

Ergo I am currently supporting animal “welfare” even thought the “rights” of those animals are probably more precious than the hill-billy, bullshit…@#%%#^$&

There are seriously people in the state who want to change the animal abuse laws and WON’T because they are FIGHTING ABOUT WORDS!

On ignore…

This week I e-mailed the Kentucky head of the HSUS…I got no reply.  I called the Massachusetts head of the HSUS…I got no reply.  I e-mailed a Kentucky senator who has been battling with the HSUS…I got no reply.  I called a woman at a horse shelter…I got no reply.  I snail-mailed and e-mailed hundreds…I got three replies.

Yet it is very “important” to all of these people that we make changes in the animal abuse laws in KY.  Soooo….wouldn’t you REPLY?!

I have suffered seven months of being put on hold, or- as my dad likes to say-, on ignore.

People LOVE to run their mouths about this change or that law, but who is actually doing anything about it?

I am going to go do my shift at the local kitty shelter.  I’m proud do say I do something.

Perhaps the aforementioned people think I’m not worth their replies?  How sad for them 🙂

The Controversy.

I eat meat.  I love animals.  These can go together, they don’t have to.  A clean kill to feed your family is a far cry from dragging an innocent pig behind a tractor.

When I visited the Floyd County Animal Shelter in Prestonsburg, KY last year, I was sickened by the animal abuse and neglect I witnessed.  And…don’t skip this next part…FACING what is going on is awful.  A puppy was shot in the head for barking.  A cat had its fur pulled out.  A dog had its lips cut off for losing a fight.  A woman let her dog starve to death while locked in a crate next to a bag of dog food.  I cried for days.  I decided to do something to help.

I started this petition ( to get change for the state of Kentucky.  This was before I knew many others already knew that animal abuse in KY sucked.   “How freaking hard can this be?!” I thought.  Tighten the laws.  Enforce the laws.  Educate people.  As I did research, a lawyer friend of mine in KY explained to me that the laws had recently been tightened.  They lack a lot, but there are some good aspects.  For example, convicted animal abuse is a felony in KY.  But it’s a Class D felony (a mini one,) and it’s only if the person is CONVICTED.

So here’s the BIG problem.  Listen up.  I believed the Humane Society (HSUS) was the god of all things animal rights.  In a way, they are.  They are the largest pro-animal organization in the USA.  They have made fabulous changes all over the country!  However they make “unofficial claims” that conflict with the beliefs of many others.  The HSUS is run by a very nice gentleman who, himself, is vegan and anti-hunting.  When the HSUS tries to make animal rights changes in KY, pro-meat hunters see the man behind the magic and automatically protest.  A Kentucky resident publicly posted “I’m all for punishing anyone that tortures or neglects domestic animals. They do not have the right to tell hunters they can’t hunt or trap. Simple as that.”  The fact is, the HSUS never tried to stop hunting in KY.  They never even mentioned it.   But when your CEO has public beliefs that contradict his business decisions, things get sticky.

The bottom line is the controversy (hence the title.)  The HSUS is very defensive about their position.  KY residents are very defensive about their rights.  Meanwhile JACK SHIT gets done to improve animal rights in KY.  Laws are lacking.  Many laws aren’t enforced.  Animal Control officers receive death threats (source, Floyd County resident,) and KY continues to be blacklisted as the “best place to live if you want to abuse an animal.”

Hey y’all.  Stop screaming “hooray for our side” and look at what we all have in common.  Decent people want to stop animal abuse.  It is cruel, sick, illegal.

“A strong connection has been documented linking animal abuse and domestic violence.” (ASPCA)  Don’t want a convicted child abuser living in your neighborhood?  Well if you live near an animal abuser, you’ve probably got one.

How can you help?  Sign the petition above.  Write to your lawmaker.  Report animal abusers.  Choose to make a change.  And if you’re a hunter?  Be honest.  A good hunter makes a quick, clean kill.  I would know, I’m related to the former Game Warden for the State of CT.  If you eat meat?  Give the animal a good life and kill quickly and painlessly.  If you’re an animal abuser?  Watch out because my blog is coming for you!  Mwahahahahaha!
